Well hello fellow bloggers (if anyone reads this!, please leave a comment i beg of thee!).
Well I failed to write about the last three films I saw. I know bad kitty, but I just been to damn busy yo! So for your reading pleasure I give not one, not two but THREE whole short reviews and thoughts on the films that I have seen recently. The first I saw at a super secret showing two whole weeks before it gets released. Its stil not out at the time of blogging and that is of THE BANK JOB.
I'm not going to regurgotate the plot coz I just can't be bovvered but the film is a well laid out story. No weird editing, no weird arty farty jump cuts. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. Something that is sooooo missing from some films these days (does everything have to have jump cuts and weird 'so now it hurts' fast editing? More of this in a moment). So go watch it if you like cool heist movies.
Second of all was JUMPER (jump cuts, weird editing I mentioned). I watched it in London while on holiday and I gotta say I was a little ummm.... disappointed in this film . I loved Doug Limans previous films (especially THE BOURNE IDENTITY) but this film was below par. Not to say it was rubbish, because it wasn't. It was WAY to short for a start, the story and characters were severly lacking and I just didn't care for them ESPECIALLY Racheal 'Look at me from THE O.C.' Bilson. She might be hot but she was playing the scenes all wrong. I am no actor but if a bus comes flying towards you in the desert look at least a bit scared and dumbfounded FOR JEBUS SAKE! An OK (and I mean OK) movie, just catch it when the flea pit prices are low, don't bother watching it in digital or on the biggest screen, you can't shine a turd, however hard you try.
Last but not least is RAMBO. The film was a good addition to the series. I'm not sure what possessed Sly to make the film super (and I mean SUPER) gory but the film doesn't get hurt for it. If you are gonna shoot someone, blood and guts are gonna generaly fly (no Sharpe theatrics here!) The story was a little weak but Rambo and story do not mix, but it doens't matter this is frickin' Rambo. Please check your brain and intellect at the door and prepare to be skull fucked! (Easy tiger I hear you cry) I sincerly apologise but I loved this movie, don't go in expecting much and you will (and I promise) come out knowing that you had a cool movie experience.
Next weks films, will probably be SEMI - PRO and THE ACCIDENTAL HUSBAND (don't ask on the last one, its the wifes turn!)

The never ending debate of cinema ettiquette
I have just returned from an advanced screening (for the UK) of a screening of JUNO. I thouroughly enjoyed the movie and thought it deserved the hype. I was going to write a long review of it but something happened in the cinema that just puzzled the hell out of me.
What happened I hear you cry! Well let me tell you. Everyone (and dont kid yourself most people do this) puts their feet up on the seats in front if no one is sitting near. This I think is fine as long as you cant see the feet in your viewing plane (peripharel etc). Well we sat down in the surprisingly semi - full theatre and shortly after a while a couple sat behinds us and two seats over. OK I hear you say, whats wrong with that? Nothing! UNTIL THE DUDE TAKES HIS FRIGGIN SHOES OFF AND PUTS THEM A SEAT LENGTH AWAY FROM MY WIFES FACE. JESUS, come on! Eveytime my wife turned to grab her Diet Coke, there was a pair of white socks size 9(ish) feet in her face. Luckily the aforementioned feet didn't smell but it was so rude and inconsiderate.
So fellow readers, if you have the urge to take off your shoes, don't do it in the confines of a theatre full of people. DO IT AT HOME.DANG!

Cloverfield has been seen and it rocks!
Well haven't blogged in a while, due to my work schedule but have just watched CLOVERFIELD and wanted to get my review up on my blog. So if anyone reads this and is as big a film geek as me, I am sure you have heard and seen the viral marketing all over the web, so you know what I am on about.
I didn't, like most people, know what to expect film wise when I started watching the film. I knew the basics from the teaser trailer and all the gossip on line. But I did have some questions/reservations. Is the monster gonna be another GODZILLA crapathon, is the camera gonna shake so much I puke my nachos up onto my lap? Is is going to be a waste of my money for a 80 odd minute film. Well I can safely say the big answer was NO! I absolutely loved this film. If anybody can remember being sooo excited about the '98 GODZILLA and thinking how much of a fuck up it was, you will not be disappointed by this. The monster is in a word, perfect, just like the shark in JAWS, its what you don't see (or catch glimses of) that scares the crap out of you.
Another aspect of the film I really liked was the absolute unending sense of dread, because you were always on the edge of your seat wanting to see what happens next. Unlike films like GODZILLA '98 you are not cut off from the death and destruction by hollywood gloss, you are right there ALL the time and it doesnt let up. So many moments hit home and can be related to the world we live in today. By this I mean clearly this is a popcorn disaster movie but, when just after the Statue of Liberty head comes flying down the road, watch the monstrous cloud of dust flying towards you and know that this is what it must have been like near the towers on September 11th. It makes you realise how insane and scary it must have been for people, and we've all seen the footage of the towers collpase on TV so you know what I am on about.
Even though it was an early afternoon showing (1215pm) (the cinema was 20 or 30 people deep ) everyone was glued to their seats, with saucer shaped eyes, everyone was right there with the characters in the film.
Matt Reeves (the director) has said since the film opened big in the States that there is no reason why there wasn't any other people filming that night, so I really hope that they do a sequel and make it just as good as this one.
Next up on my agenda is JUNO and the review will be up Sunday night.

One Every Year...
Having looked at the films for 2008 I got to thinking of what films I am really looking forward to. Like any film geek I can't wait for the blockbusters like JOHN RAMBO, CLOVERFIELD,INDY (with a good poster!!), HULK (the Incredible!) and Iron Man (and the list goes ever on). But what I am really looking forward to is the one or two films that come out every year that take everyone by surprised. The films I am on about are ones like SIDEWAYS, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. Films that have no big explosions, no big actors etc but one thing blockbusters (usually) don't have : characters. Do we really care about Arnie blowing up another russian or super villian, not really...but want to see Napoleon get the girl or Olive win the Little Miss Sunshine Pageant, damn straight you do!
The first film that I can see being this type of film for 2008 is JUNO, directed by Jason (son of Ivan) Reitman, who directed THANK YOU FOR SMOKING, even if it does have a rubbish UK poster. The film looks like it will come out of leftfield and surprise everyone who watches it. I think that when the film ends you will want it to continue and stay with the characters and see what happens next in their lives. This can only be the sign of a great film, that will play with good word of mouth.

First Blog - Rubbish Movie Posters
If anyone is reading this, this is my first blog EVER! (Drumroll please). Here I will be talking about my daily life and what random thoughts pop into my brain (usually film,DVD or music related).
My first thought is thus, crap UK movie posters. Having recently left a job at a cinema, I saw my fair share of crap and uninspired movie posters. The most recent one that I have seen since leaving the cinema is for the new (much hyped) JUNO. The film has been recieving critical acclaim across the pond and has been dubbed the new LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE. A lofty call and one I will review when it arrives here early February. Having recently purchased my new Total Film magazine, it has a new poster on the back cover, and how bland it is! It has the main characters standing still and two colours in the piece, one blue (I guess representing the sky) and green for the grass. How old do film companies think we are?! At least have some initiciative and do something different and be able to market the film. The classic 80's films (which I will always harp on about, please forgive me!) had some amazing posters. Examples I hear you cry, INDIANA JONES TRILOGY, EMPIRE STRIKES BACK,RETURN OF THE JEDI, BLADERUNNER,THE GOONIES. They had proper posters, not something lazy hacked together on Phontoshop 1.0. Get some initiative Hollywood and make some decent posters!
